The President practiced his art,
And signed the next treaty called START.
Add that to his wins!
Let’s hope he begins…
To act with even more blanche carte!

That’s a Start
Monday, April 19th, 2010New Clear Days
Monday, April 12th, 2010President Obama hosted a summit designed to get world leaders to commit to securing their nuclear arsenals. Having lived through the nightmare 80′s with fears of nuclear annihilation hanging over our heads, all I can say is, it’s about time.
While the sentiment may not be popular,
The President’s made me feel jocular,
Thanks to his summit:
The thing I learn from it?
Thank God this one can pronounce “nucular!”
Leavings
Saturday, April 10th, 2010The end of Supreme Justice Stevens,
Gives progressives a case of the grievin’s,
But Obama, a chance,
To maintain his stance,
And at least keep the court somewhat “evens.”
Strong Packaging
Friday, March 12th, 2010Amidst the legislative wreckage,
A new thought begins to gain trackage,
True to their form,
Repubs won’t pass reform,
Since they’re ‘fraid of our President’s Package.

Chief Sales
Sunday, March 7th, 2010Our Prez seems to know well what ails man,
But in attacking the issue he tails an…
To avoid a flub-trick,
He must become an über salesman.
Fall Into The Gap
Thursday, February 25th, 2010The much-heralded Health Care Summit finally happened. The one that should have happened at the beginning of last year, with the left putting single-payer on the table. Maybe then we could have compromised to the point where a public-option is now on the table. Waiting this long, the President gave the Republicans plenty of time to politick the issue… whether by flying the same small group of tea-partiers to different congressional town halls last summer or playing with expectations by saying today’s summit was a set-up, or trap. When will this President realize that the Republicans, at least with regards to health care, are implacable?
In attempting to “bridge” today’s “gap,”
Our Prez was accused of a “trap.”
He has to remember,
That GOP members,
To a man just could not give a crap!
Viet Dinh or Viet Cong?
Friday, February 19th, 2010Just how unpopular are are President Barack Obama’s anti-terrorism policies with his Republican critics? Even when he’s killing terrorists they find flaws.
(from Huffpost)
In an effort to garner some press,
Former Bushie sets out to assess,
And find some big error,
How O’s fighting terror:
Just how much is too much success?
Bye Bye Bye
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010This one requires you to pronounce “the” the short, American way… “Thu” as opposed to “Thee.” Senator Bayh was one of those Democratic Senators “on the fence” about the public option with regards to health care, and always willing to stab his own party, and his constituents, in the back. For me, that means he will NOT be missed.
You can pity weak-kneed Evan Bayh,
Deciding he wasn’t the guy,
To be our new Chief,
Now that’s a relief,
As for me I’ll gladly say Buh-Bye.
GOP Apes
Friday, February 5th, 2010Richard Shelby (R-AL) has put an extraordinary “blanket hold” on at least 70 nominations President Obama has sent to the Senate, according to multiple reports this evening. The hold means no nominations can move forward unless Senate Democrats can secure a 60-member cloture vote to break it, or until Shelby lifts the hold. Here’s what it looks like in limerick form:
Who went and elected these apes?
Those committing political rapes:
Claiming “trepidations,”
When it’s really just all sour grapes.
Obama Martialed
Saturday, January 30th, 2010Barack Obama visited a Republican House Member’s retreat and they allowed the cameras to roll on their Q&A session with the President. I’m sick on popcorn!
When I heard Barack went to the Lion’s Den,
At first I thought I would be cryin’, then…
Left some of them scarred!
In truth Barack showed some defyin’ zen!
State of the Chief
Thursday, January 28th, 2010Last night our President delivered his second State of the Union address, often referred to as his “first,” since it follows his first year in office. The idea of a “spending freeze” looks, to me, like an attempt to curry favor with the right. I think Americans of any stripe would prefer a politician that has the courage of his convictions. A spending freeze that John McCain claims doesn’t go far enough isn’t going to get any tea-baggers to support you.
I don’t mean to keep spreading slander,
But do let me speak with some candor:
Tonight, Chief-Commander…
You did not meander,
But certainly started to pander.
(Too many good rhymes to pass up. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a limerick with this structure, but I like it. Not enough to do it all the time, but there it is. Sometimes the rhymes dictate the content, sometimes the other way around. What do you think?)
Hypocrats
Wednesday, January 27th, 2010So for about a year now we’ve heard that it takes 60 votes to get anything done in the Senate. And amazingly enough, the Democratic 60-vote majority (that is, if you consider Joe Lieberman a Democrat) accomplished very little of anything besides losing a seat. Then some Democratic Senators took a stand against the re-confirmation of Ben Bernanke as Treasury Secretary. How does Harry Reid respond?
Allow me to judge and inform:
When talking ’bout votes for reform,
Health Care needs SIXTY,
Big Ben just FIFTY.
Looks like we’ve returned to the norm.
Republocrat or Demican?
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010President Obama seems poised, along with half of the Democratic caucus, to learn exactly the wrong lesson from the Massachusetts Senatorial election. Polling consistently shows that the public simply wants politicians that get things DONE. The Democrats won an amazing “change” election in 2008, and then proceeded to govern as if it were business as usual, kowtowing to a beaten minority in hopes of fleeting “bipartisanship,” ignoring the (actual) mandate handed to them, and botching health care reform. A majority of the public STILL wants a public option component, it’s just that Joe Lieberman doesn’t! Now, Obama is set to propose a spending freeze (something he mocked McCain for suggesting during the campaign), just as he decided he liked the idea of taxing “Cadillac” health plans (another McCain idea he once scoffed at). All of this leads me to wonder, who the hell did we elect? Is he just a people-pleasing approval-seeking nerd that craves approval from the mindless jocks? Listen, when you win an historic Presidential election, I gotta tell you, you finally ARE one of the popular kids!
Forgive me for bringing this up again,
But before he signs bills with his fountain pen,
Our prez should remember,
A year past November,
We did not elect him Republican.
Swayed
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010The lack of a public option in the President’s bill severely disappointed me, but I’ve been brought round to a strong supporter of the President’s plan by something I read today…
Despite Obama’s good report,
Health Care Reform I did not support,
Til I heard Limbaugh say,
He would “move far away!”
My support now provides him escort!
